Tackling inequality in cross country, track and field
Ike's Spikes Indy is committed to providing athletes with proper footwear for their events, a problem often overlooked in running and field sports. An athlete suffers a severe disadvantage without a pair of spikes, which cost $75-100 on average.
At the high school level, proper shoes are imperative to be competitive, and it is tragic that many athletes are curbed by their financial situations. Ike'sSpikesIndy is a not-for-profit initiative that was started to address this problem.
We are partnering with a fiscal sponsorship program to provide us with benefits of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We will soon be busy reaching out to our first benefactor schools, and, hopefully before Christmas, connecting with schools to send some spikes to athletes.
